Knowledge of maintenance for automotive chassis components

The chassis of a car is the most critical position of the vehicle. Many important car parts are located on the car chassis, so the maintenance of the car chassis is also very important. However, many car enthusiasts are not very familiar with the relevant knowledge about the car chassis. Below are some related knowledge about the car chassis that the editor has compiled for car enthusiasts.
Maintenance of components
1. Shock absorber:
Shock absorbers are mainly used to reduce the vibration that cars experience on uneven roads. Oil leakage is a precursor to shock absorber damage, and in addition, significantly increased bumps or longer braking distances on bad road surfaces are also signs of shock absorber damage.
Suspension control arm rubber sleeve:
After the rubber sleeve is damaged, the vehicle will experience a series of faults such as deviation and swinging, even if four-wheel alignment is done, it will be of no help. If the chassis is carefully inspected, damage to the rubber sleeve can be easily detected.
3 Steering rods:
The steering tie rod is divided into two types: the steering tie rod that connects the left and right trapezoidal arms and coordinates their work, and the steering tie rod that transmits the force and motion from the steering rocker arm to the steering knuckle arm. Loosening of the steering rod is a serious safety hazard, therefore, it is essential to carefully inspect this area during routine maintenance. The method is simple: hold the lever and apply force to the chair. If there is no shaking, it means everything is normal. Otherwise, the ball joint or lever assembly should be replaced.
4 Exhaust pipes:
The exhaust pipe is one of the most vulnerable components under the car, so don’t forget to take a look during maintenance. Especially for exhaust pipes with three-way catalytic converters, they should be carefully inspected.
5 Universal joint dust cover:
The universal joint plays a role in transmitting power between two rotating shafts with constantly changing positions and angles between them. Don’t underestimate the dust cover on the outside of the universal joint. It not only has a dust-proof effect, but also prevents the loss of lubricating grease around the universal joint. Once the dust cover is damaged, the lubricating grease will quickly dissipate. Due to dry grinding, the universal joint is easily damaged.
6 Diaphragm Spring Clutch:
It plays a role in ensuring smooth starting of the car, facilitating gear shifting, and preventing transmission overload. If the gap between the separation bearing and the diaphragm spring is too large, it will cause incomplete separation. When the pedal free stroke is too small, the separation bearing will stick to the diaphragm spring and push it, causing insufficient clamping force, clutch slippage, and increased fuel consumption. Therefore, when you find that you cannot shift gears or start steadily, you should consider checking the clutch.
The above is some relevant knowledge about car chassis that the editor has compiled for car enthusiasts. We hope that car enthusiasts can learn more and not be helpless when there is a malfunction.
